Club Notes 14.07.2009
On Sunday August 2nd the Gaels will celebrate the First Championship win of 1959.
Everyone, young and old, in the area is asked to come out and celebrate with the Club, by dressing up ‘Fifties Style’ and taking part in the celebrations.
The events for the day are as follows
5.00pm Special Celebration Mass
5.50pm Unveiling of Plaque to the Late Gerald Gilmartin by Padraig White (son of Melvin Gaels chairman at the time)
6.00pm Exhibition match re-inacting the 1959 final
7.00pm Tea and home baking in Community Centre
7.30pm Traditional music by local children
8.00pm Sketch of Melvin Gaels first Club meeting
8.30pm Traditional music with local Ceoltas Group + Ceilí Mór.
League Game v St. Marys
The Seniors took on St. Marys in Melvin Park on Saturday evening and secured a badly needed win
This game was played in terrible conditions with constant rain and strong wind blowing.
Scores were hard to come by and both teams found it hard going .In the first half both teams had two scores each, but the Gaels got a well worked goal fisted to the net by Daniel Branley and a good point from Stephen McGurran. The half time score was Melvin Gaels 1-1 St. Marys 0-2.
In the second half the Gaels seemed to cope better with the conditions and thanks to some excellent free taking from Conor Sheridan they secured a deserved win.
Next up for the Gaels is another senior league game against Gortletterragh on Saturday evening at 6.30pm.
Understandably there was a very small crowd at the St Marys game hopefully there will be a big crowd and the sun shines next Saturday.

Melvin Gaels would like to wish every health and happiness to Garda Marcus Mulligan who retired recently from An Garda Siochana having been stationed in Kinlough and involved with the club for many years.

Club Notes 29.06.2009
On Friday evening last the Seniors got back to winning ways when they defeated Annsaduff on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-4.
The Gaels controlled this game all the way but at times wasted a lot of chances.
The first half was very close and goalkeeper Jesse Mc Guinness pulled of a good save to prevent Annaduff from going into the break ahead.
The second half was not so close and the Gaels went onto a six point lead with Annaduff scoring a penalty with the last kick of the game.
Gaels 1959 Celebrations

Club Notes 23.06.2009
No joy for the Gaels juniors on Saturday evening in Ballinamore when they were beaten on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-7.
They take on Aughavas on Sunday at 2pm in Melvin Park.
The seniors take on Annaduff at 8.30pm on Friday in Melvin Park in a Shield game.
Gaels 1959 Celebrations

Fr Bernard Doyle
The Club would like to congratulate Fr Bernard Doyle on the Golden Jubilee of his ordination.
Fr Doyle is a former Gaels player.
There will be a Mass of Thanksgiving in St Patrick’s Church, Kiltyclogher on Friday night at 8pm followed by refreshments in the Community Centre.

Club Notes 15.06.2009
There was no luck for the Gaels at the weekend when the Juniors were beaten by Leitrim Gaels on Saturday evening in Melvin Park on a score line of Melvin Gaels, 1-4, Leitrim Gaels 1-12.
In Mohill on Sunday the seniors were beaten by the home side. Final score was Mohill 1-12, Melvin Gaels 0-9.
This weekend the Juniors travel to Ballinamore for a League game at 6.30pm.
Sympathy
The Club extends deepest sympathy to the Sheerin family, Laughta on the recent sad and sudden death of Padraig.
Sympathy is also extended to the Sheridan family on the death of Catherine’s father, Francis O Reilly, Moyne, Co Longford.
May they rest in peace.

Club Notes 26.05.2009
The juniors suffered their first defeat in Division 4 League on Sunday in Melvin Park.
There was a gale force wind blowing which made good football difficult.
The Gales had the benefit of the wind in the first half but failed to put enough scores on the board
The second half was fairly even, but Dromahaire finished stronger
The final score was Melvin Gaels 1-9, Dromahaire 1-11.
The Juniors have another League game against Kiltubrid in Melvin Park on Saturday evening.
Throw in for this game is 6.30pm.
Leitrim V Roscommon
Melvin Gaels wish Good Luck to all the Leitrim lads in the big game in Pairc Sean on Sunday.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Shauna Ryan who suffered an unfortunate injury playing for her school recently.

Club Notes 18.05.2009
On Saturday evening the Seniors travelled to Aughawillan and came away with a win.
The Gaels had the bare fifteen players, but produced a good performance and got a deserved victory.
The Gaels led at halftime m 0-7 to 0-5.
In the second half a great penalty save from Jesse Mc Guinness, stopped the home side drawing level.
Final score was Melvin Gaels 0-13, Aughawillan 0-7.
The Gaels team was:

Junior Game v Bornacoola
The Juniors travelled to Bornacoola on Sunday and recorded another good league win.
The Gaels are still unbeaten in the Junior league and they made sure to keep this great run going in Bornacoola.
There were some great scores taken in this game with the highlight great goal from Fergal Gallagher.
There was some good goalkeeping from Peter O Reilly , once again with a good performance from the whole team.
The team was: Peter O Reilly, Shane Mc Carron, Joe Mc Gowan, Sean Kilkenny, Blaine Mulligan, Anthony Tiffoney, Shane Ryan, Daniel Branley Bernard Mc Gowan, Packie Hill, Jesse Mc Guinness, James Bredin, Thomas Lipsett, Declan roper and Fergal Gallagher.
Subs used: Gary Mc Gurran, Kevin Corby, Peter Mc Gowan and Gary Morris.
Games at the weekend
On Saturday evening the seniors travel to Drumreilly for a Shield game at 6.30pm. On Sunday the Juniors are at Melvin Park where they take on Dromahaire in the Junior League.
Throw in for this game is 12 noon.

Club Notes 12.05.2009
Lá na gClub Big Football and Sports Day in Melvin Park
There was a large crowd in Melvin Park on Sunday for La na gClub . There was fun for all the family, football for all ages as well as other novelty events.
The weather was kind so this meant that the events were able to go on from 1pm to 9pm.
The pillow fighting , golf and nail-driving and Mystery Man went well.
The Club would like to thank everyone who put in such an effort to make the day such a success.
Thanks to everyone who sponsored the different events on the day.
The entertainment provided by new group Fusebox and now well known Stonefree was enjoyed by all- young and not so young. Thanks to both these groups. Their music was an inspiration to all and especially to the ‘Over Forties’ who took to the field at about 7.30pm.
Overall this was a great day and the Club would like to thank everyone who supported the celebrations in any way.

The Club would like to wish a long, happy and healthy retirement to our Chairman, Terry Tiffoney on his retirement from the ESB after forty one years.

Club Notes 04.05.2009
Senior League v Ballinamore
On Saturday afternoon the Gaels recorded their second Senior League win of the year when they defeated Sean o Heslins, Ballinamore by the narrowest of margins.
The Gaels played their best football in the first half and went into the break leading by six points even though they were playing against a strong wind. In the second half playing with the wind they struggled and it was Sean O Heslins who played some good football drawing level near the end.
The Gaels were missing number of first team players through injury but the players who came in did well.
The final score was Melvin Gaels 1-8 Sean O Heslins 0-10.
Junior League v Ballinaglera
The juniors went to Ballinaglera on Sunday and came away with a draw after having a good lead at half time.
The final score was 2-7 for Melvin Gaels and 0-13 for Ballinaglera.

Sunday next will be a Big Sports day for Melvin Gaels in Melvin Park.
This day will be held to mark the 125th Anniversary of the GAA.
The football events will go on for most of the day, but there will be something for all.

It was a mixed weekend for the Gaels with the seniors losing to Aughawillan on Saturday evening in Aughawillan by the narrowest of margins and the Juniors getting a hard fought win on Sunday against Allen Gaels in Drumshanbo.
Next Saturday the seniors take on Sean O Heslins, Ballinamore in Melvin Park at 3.30pm and the Juniors take on Ballinaglera on Monday at 2pm in Ballinaglera.

Melvin Gaels will be holding activities in Melvin Park for the Club’s Celebrations.
A Marathon day of football is being planned for the day with all age groups involved and there will all types of entertainment and games to suit everyone.
More help is needed to make the day a success and all parents of underage and all club members are asked to come along.

Club Notes 20.04.2009
Senior League v Bornacoola
The Gaels recorded their first Senior League win of 2009 when they took on Bornacoola in Melvin Park on Saturday evening last.
This was a good display by the Gaels with a lot of good performances all over the field , particularly in the first half, which they finished 1-8 to 0-1 ahead.
A very well taken goal from Paul Brennan, capped a great performance.
Bornacoola started better in the second half, but they were unable to cut the Gaels lead and goals from Stephen Mc Gurran and BB Brennan and some good scores from Packie Hill and Conor Sheridan ensured a comfortable victory for the Gaels.
Final score was Melvin Gaels 3-12, Bornacoola 0-7.
Well done to all concerned.
The next games for the Gaels are a senior league game on Saturday in Aughawillan and a Junior game on Sunday against Allen Gaels in Drumshanbo
Good Luck Patsy
The Club would like to wish Patsy Mc govern health and happiness in his retirement from the Gardai.
Thankfully he is continuing his great work for the Club.
