Last Game of The Year for the Seniors
The Seniors played their final game of the League for 2009 when they took on Kiltubrid on Saturday evening last in Melvin Park.
The Kiltubrid team are in the running for a place in the League Final and were they showed more hunger than the Gaels. Kiltubrid won on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-8.
The Gaels played some good football at times but two goals from Kiltubrid in the first half, meant that they were always playing catch-up.
All in all it was a disappointing League campaign for the Gaels in 2009.
All we can do is look forward to 2010.

Championship Run Ends
The Senior Championship run came to an end on Sunday evening when the Gaels were beaten by Carrigallen in Pairc Sean.
The old habits came back again to haunt the Gaels when, as in many other games this year, they could not put the ball over the bar despite having plenty of possession.
This game was played in poor conditions but this was no excuse for the below par performance by this Gaels team, who had promised so much in the Quarter Final game.
Carrigallen seemed to be the more hungry team and took their chances much better than the Gaels.
The Gaels were always in the game and they had chances to draw level in the second half and might even have got a draw with the last chance of the game when Colin Regan went desperately close to scoring an equalising goal.
Thanks and well done to all the players and management who put in such a great effort throughout this years championship.
Lotto
The numbers drawn in the Melvin Gaels Lotto held in the Melvin Hotel on Sunday night were: 5, 9, 15 and 18.
There was no Jackpot winner.
Other winners were: €40, Barbour Regan, Cloone, Kinlough, €20 each Denis Mc Gowan, Gubacreeney, Kinlough, Brendan Doherty C/O Blaine Mulligan, Kinlough and Joe Mc Carron, Mill Road, Kinlough.
Next draw in Gilbrides, Rossinver on Sunday September 20.
Jackpot €4,000.00

In The Semi-Final!
It was a great evening for the Gaels on Saturday in Pairc Sean when the seniors produced a brilliant display to overcome a much fancied Kiltubrid and reach the Senior Championship Semi final for the first time since 2002.
This was a great team performance in difficult conditions and they now face Carrigallen in the Semi final.
Well done to all the lads.
Melvin Gaels would like to acknowledge the great act of sportsmanship displayed by a Kiltubrid player, when he put the ball out of play when Daniel Branley was down injured near the end of the game.
This is something not seen very often in the game nowadays but should be encouraged.
Thankfully Daniel is alright but his condition at the time gave cause for concern.

Senior Championship
It’s back to the Senior Championship this weekend when the Gaels take on Kiltubrid on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean in the Quarter Final. Throw in for this game is 6.30pm.
Good luck to all the lads and Val, Barbour and Joe.
Junior Championship
The juniors run in the Championship ended on Saturday evening last when they were defeated by St Marys by four points,
They had a lot of the play in the second half but could not get the scores needed.
Melvin Gaels Golden Jubilee Celebrations
On Sunday August 2nd, the community of Kinlough stepped back in time with the Melvin Gaels Golden Jubilee celebrations. The evening began with Fr. Keogan arriving on pony and trap to celebrate Mass, with members of the honoured 1959 team participating in the readings and offertory gifts. After Mass, a large crowd gathered round to hear a fitting speech by Mr. Pauric White at the unveiling of the plaque dedicated to Gerald Gilmartin, honouring his donation for the training field. This was followed by an entertaining re-enactment of the 1959 county final by a first class Kinlough side who thankfully won out again against Ballinamore! Following the game, the hungry players and spectators were greeted in the community centre by the smell of homemade bread and scones which was served to all with a welcome cup of tea while Seamus Sweeney, Eileen Kane & Lydia Warnock entertained with some excellent traditional music.
Thanks to Noel McGowan, Spar, Kinlough, the 1959 County Finalists and committee were treated to a sit down meal where many a story was recounted! The highlight of the evening was a comical sketch of the Club’s first meeting in 1954, adapted by Patsy McGovern. Well done to the actors and actress who gave a very fine performance to a packed hall. The evening ended with excellent traditional music from Seamus McGowan and members of local Ceoltas group and dancers from the Emerald Revellers.
Thanks to all who embraced the spirit of the occasion and dressed as in the 50’s and congratulations to Nora McGloin, who won best dressed lady sponsored by the newly opened Arroo Hair Group, Kinlough and Colin Regan, who was chosen as the best dressed gentleman, sponsored by F&F Construction, judge on the day was Clem Prendergast. Thanks also to our other sponsors, B&M DIY Manorhamilton, Edel Hegarty Hair Salon, Creevykeel and Joe & Edel McCarron for supplying raffle prizes and to all those who made the wonderful homemade bread and to the ladies who served it.
Watch out for the DVD on the shelves in the coming weeks!!

Senior Championship
The seniors qualified for the Championship quarter finals even though they were beaten by Glencar/Manorhamilton by five points on Sunday evening last.
The Gaels were very lucky to qualify and will have to improve a lot if they are to progress any further.
We saw two very different Gaels teams in this game . In the first half, they looked hungry and led by a point at the break and but for some hard luck could have been further ahead, having hit the upright twice.
In the second half Glencar/Manorhamilton played all the good football and it looked as if the Gaels had gone home.
Nevertheless we are in the quarter final and now face an in form Kiltubrid and will need to produce the kind of football we all know they are capable of playing.

Junior Championship
On Monday afternoon the Gaels junior team travelled to Leitrim Village where they took on Bornacoola in the first game in the Junior A Championship.
They came away with a draw having played second best in the first half and dominating the second. The final score was Melvin Gaels 0-10, Bornacoola 0-10.
Bornacoola got off to a great start and recorded eight points in a row before the Gaels got off the mark, scoring two late points before the break.
Bornacoola got the first score of the second half and looked odds on to take both points.
The Gaels then started to play some good football and took control. They could have won the game, but for a number of bad wides.
The Gaels will be happy to have got a draw from this game but will know they must improve if they are to advance in the championship.

Club Notes 27.07.2009
Championship Starts
The seniors got a draw against Allen Gaels on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean in the first of their games in the 2009 Championship.
Melvin Gaels played a first half in this game that they will want to forget quickly.
The team looked nervous and Allen Gaels took full advantage and went into the break leading by seven points. 2-3 to 0-2. The Gaels scored another ‘point’ which was first given and then taken away. This looked a good score to many.
In the second half Melvin Gaels looked much better and got an early goal from Gareth Phelan and the game then became much more of a contest.
Going into the last few minutes Allen Gaels were leading by four points and looked odds on to win. The Melvin Gaels got a point to leave only a goal in it with many north Leitrim supporters heading for the gate . Then Paul Og Ferguson scored a goal, after a fantastic piece of play, that will be remembered for a long time and left the Melvin Gaels supporters heading home happy, with a draw that appeared very unlikely at half time.

It was a great team performance in the second half, well done to all.
The final score was Melvin Gaels 2-7 Allen Gaels 2-7.
